Responsibilities for corporations, cooperatives and organizations

Provincial trade agreement for corporations, cooperatives and business names

If your Alberta corporation, cooperative or partnership is registered to do business in BC or Saskatchewan, it's easy to keep that registration active.

You must provide an update when:

  • there’s a change to the Alberta corporation name
  • there’s a change to the Alberta cooperative name
  • your corporation has amalgamated with another corporation
  • your cooperative has amalgamated with another cooperative
  • your corporation no longer carries on business in BC or Saskatchewan
  • your cooperative no longer carries on business in BC or Saskatchewan
  • there’s a change of home jurisdiction (from Alberta to another province or country)
  • there’s a change to your BC or Saskatchewan attorney for your business
  • there’s a change to your corporation's BC or Saskatchewan head office
  • there’s a change to your cooperative’s BC or Saskatchewan head office
  • you want to reinstate your corporation's registration in BC or restore the registration in Saskatchewan
  • you want to reinstate your cooperative’s registration in BC or restore the registration in Saskatchewan
  • there's a change to your Alberta limited partnership or limited liability partnership registration
  • your Alberta limited partnership or limited liability partnership registration has been cancelled or you want to cancel the registration in BC or Saskatchewan

There’s no cost to register these updates but you may need a name search and reservation when there is a new name for the corporation, cooperative or partnership.

BC and Saskatchewan Corporate Registry will mail a new certificate when your corporation or cooperative name change, amalgamation or reinstatement/restoral has been processed.

Alberta Corporate Registry will advise BC and Saskatchewan when your Alberta corporation has been dissolved. The office of the Director of Cooperatives will advise BC and Saskatchewan when your Alberta cooperative has been dissolved. This will generally result in the automatic cancellation of your extra-provincial registration in BC or Saskatchewan.
